I know the feeling. The feeling that someone took advantage of you and your company. You were promised results and saw nothing in return.
Did you ever wonder why? I’m sure the marketing company that promised these results had good intentions. (I hope.)
In this cheat sheet, I will explain the Focus Marketing Method.
The next three steps will explain why all of your marketing efforts in the past have flopped. The Focus Marketing Method will allow your business to experience growth never seen before.
Let’s get started.
Step #1: Find Core Service
The first step I take when working with a new client is understanding what service we want to allocate all of our marketing efforts to.
WARNING: DO NOT TRY AND PROMOTE EVERY SERVICE YOU OFFER!
Here’s an example to illustrate. I met with a large plumbing with a monthly budget of $4,500. You would think they would have plenty of customers based on the amount they were spending a month. Nope!
Why? You see, without identifying their Core Service, they were bidding on every keyword under the sun. So instead, I instructed them to bid on and try to rank for only ten keywords. This allowed them to dominate this service completely, and their competition never even had a chance.
Also, trying to rank organically for a keyword list of 50+ is not impossible, but you better be patient.
So, as you can see, the more Focus you have, the better results you will see, especially with digital marketing.
So, what service do you like to provide that brings your company the most profit and are the best at?
Awesome.
Write down the service you will allocate your marketing dollars to dominate.
Step 2: Focus On Your Target Market
Without understanding your target market’s individual qualities, creating targeting campaigns and crafting a message that will influence and persuade will be virtually impossible.
The first step in creating your Target Market Profile is to close your eyes and imagine the customer that will buy this Core Service.
A couple of examples are things such as:
- Age?
- Gender?
- Occupation?
- Do they have children?
- Where do they live?
- What websites do they visit?
- How do they buy?

3: Focus On Marketing Avenues That Work
Once you have identified your Core Service, and understand who your Target Market is, it is time to understand the best way to get them to call your business.
I am sure you have heard that 20% of your efforts generate 80% of the results. Well, below are the 20% of things that will generate 80% of the results for your business.
For local companies, a group of core activities will provide the best results for your efforts.
- Local SEO (ranking in the Local Map Pack)
- Google Business Profile
- Google Ads (PPC & Local Service Ads)
Of course, there will be other things you can do to enhance your marketing efforts, but these services will be the key to success.
I have personally helped over 1000 local businesses, such as law firms and home service companies, increase their monthly revenue by an average of 30% per month.
For example, Justin with American Mudjacking sees an average of $15,000 a month in increased revenue.
